These unique cabooses were also known as "Transfer Cabooses". They were built to replace an aging fleet of wood cabooses used in various yard and transfer duties. As a result, the replacements had to be sturdy. The solution was to build a cabin on top of old steam tenders. As built, these new cabooses had large side and end windows (pictured above). Later in life they were modified with large windows plated over with smaller openings (pictured below). These models will be available as unpainted models or fully painted and lettered in a number of schemes. We will be starting with the original scheme of orange with maroon lettering and also include later versions with the slanted Milwaukee Road logo.

The models shown above are the first assembly samples. There will be a few improvements made and we expect to put the first batch into production this fall with the models being available early next year. At this time we would like to know your interest in these projects. Please feel free to drop us a note and let us know your interest. We will accept reservations for these items and let you know when the projects are near. No money is required now. Prices and part numbers are listed below. It is our intention to offer two numbers for each painted version.

These were home built at the Mopac's Sedalia and De Soto shops from 1977
to 1982. Sometimes called transfer cabooses, these were actually road
cabooses and used across the system. Our initial offerings will include
unpainted models as well as the classic red scheme with white lettering and
the "Screaming Eagle" below the bay window. If you are interested in a
different scheme, including the UP's MOW Green, please let us know and
provide any photos you may have available to help us develop the project.
